Scuba Diving Holidays In Bahamas
Enjoy an adrenalized shark encounter or simply bask in the warm, clear waters - the Bahamas'
700 islands encompass every type of scuba dive one could possibly wish for, along with some
of the best diving conditions in the world.

Country Description
The Bahamas covers a staggering 100,000 square miles
and is made up of a string of 700 small islands, only
30 of which are inhabited. The Atlantic Ocean in the
north and the Caribbean in the south border the islands.
There are two main islands, Grand Bahamas and New Providence.
The former is where you'll find Freeport, while
the latter has the Bahamas capital of Nassau where it
is possible to charter boats to get around the islands.
Although the most popular way of getting around is by
the plane, with Bahamas Air offering a frequent service.
Diving Description
The Bahamas offer almost every type of diving from classic
coral reefs and wrecks to walls, caverns and blue holes.
There are also shark and dolphin dives. Since diving is
one of the mainstays of the country's economy, divers are
well catered for with operators spread throughout the island,
loads of land-based centres and a number of liveaboards.
Add to this the crystal clear, warm waters and the Bahamas
could be described as a paradise for divers.
Many of the island's dive centres run shark diving expeditions
offering experiences which range from feeding with a stick
and baitbox to feeding by hand!
Dive Sites in the bahamas
James Bond's Vulcan Bomber and Tears of
Allah Wrecks.
There are so many wrecks in the Bahamas that a wreck tour
makes a very f8ulfilling holiday. For example the waters
here are home to wrecks sunk for the purpose of filming
James Bond in action. The Vulcan bomber was featured
in Thunderball, while Tears of Allah could be seen in
Never Say Never Again.
Theo's Wreck and Sapona
Theo's Wreck is a freighter that was sunk to create
an articfi9cial reek; Sapona is an ex-rum runner, which
is made of concrete, lies at only 3m, and promises more
fish than you could dream of.
White Sand Ridge and Bimini
Not one, but two paradise islands for dolphin spotters.
Bimini is especially good with opportunities for divers
to swim with spotted dolphins. In fact it is a favoured
destination for the world's best underwater photographers.
Blue Holes
The best blue hole lies about ten miles east of Nassau.
The hole is over 30m in diameter, starts only 12m down
and is set in the sea floor of white sand. Coral heads
that are home to a multitude of marine life forms surrounds
it. Inside the hole is simply breathtaking, dropping down
far beyond recreational dive limits.
Other info
The Bahamas offer so much variation that the relatively
untouched areas away from the more popular dive centres
can promise pristine, untouched coral and fish that have
yet to be named! |
