Scuba Diving Holidays In Oman
Spend some Arabian Days in the Gulf of Oman - but get there quickly before everyone else
hears what this magical land of the Sultans has to offer.
Country Description
Situated on the south eastern corner of the Arabian Peninsula
below Saudi Arabia with 1,700km of coastline, Oman is
designated as a Sultanate. The Sultan is very keen to
promote diving and tourism, so the people are very friendly
and helpful and the bars, restaurants and shopping areas
extremely inviting and clean. In fact, locals even get
fined if their car is dirty which makes Oman much like
the Singapore of the Middle East.
Very little of the Oman coast has been dived simply due
to logistics. The Musandam Peninsula belongs to Oman,
but is separated from the country by the United Arab
Emirates making it quite remote. However, it is a legendary
dive site.
Diving Description
Most diving takes place in the Gulf of Oman, which is a
much smaller body of water than the Red Sea. The coral
here is low lying and pristine with soft corals growing
in abundance. Indeed, they are among the best corals you
are ever likely to see, in a place that is very quiet.
It's a paradise on the verge of being discovered, so
get there soon.
Dive Sites
The Daymaniyats
A small group of islands about half an hour boats ride
away. Here you will find some fine diving with enormous
table corals, brain corals, seafans and loads of sea life.
Fahal (or Shark) Islands
Diving in these waters will bring almost guaranteed encounters
with honeycomb morays and large grouper that swim among
the divers. It is also common to come face to face with
large lemon sharks and black-tip reef sharks.
Other info
You will need a visa to visit Oman, so you need to approach
the Omani Embassy.
