Scuba Diving Holidays and Travel in Europe
From the balmy waters of Malta to the colder seas of Scotland, Europe offers a marvellous variety of dives to suit all tastes and standards.
Considering the less than ideal weather and temperature in most of Europe the region has a dedicated scuba diving following and you have to look more carefully at what is on offer to truly understand the appeal.
Although Northern Europe does not have the same wealth of marine life as other more tropical locations it does boast some of the worlds premier wreck diving. In the waters of Scandinavia even older wooden wrecks survive primarily due to the nature of the water. During the winter the arctic waters of Scandinavia also offer an opportunity for ice diving.
The remaining German fleet was scuppered in Scapa flow in 1919 and as well as providing some exceptional scuba diving you may also have the chance to see seals diving amongst the wreckage and this experience is available to scuba divers of all levels.
As you move further south and into the Mediterranean the temperatures improve and the opportunities improve as well.
The Mediterranean from France, through Spain and Portugal are all popular dive areas with the emphasis again being on wreck dives however locations such as the canary Islands have a substantial amount of marine life on offer as well as a climate to rival Florida hence scuba diving can be enjoyed all year round.
